Dr. Geoffrey Francis

Dr-Francis-bioDr Francis is a consultant Gastroenterologist and Head of Gastroenterology at the John Flynn Hospital. He attained his science degree with Honors from Newcastle University in 1998 before completing medical studies at the University of Queensland in 2001. He completed his physician training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane before undergoing general gastroenterology training at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

Having completed his general fellowship, Dr Francis undertook an advanced interventional endoscopy fellowship at Melbourne’s Western Hospital. He returned to the Gold Coast in 2011 after completing a further interventional fellowship in ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound and Barrett’s Oesophagus Ablation at one of the United States’ premier G.I. endoscopy facilities, Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

Dr Francis attends John Flynn Hospital and Pindara Private Hospital.

Dr Francis’ interests include general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease and cancer screening services. He has a special interest in interventional gastroenterology including ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound and Capsule Endoscopy. He is the pioneer Gastroenterologist to utilise the “halo” technology for radio frequency ablation of Barrett’s oesophagus on the Gold Coast.
